Office Accident Claims

Graham Coffey & Co’s lawyers represent clients who have been injured in accidents which occur at their offices and place of work.

As with any workplace, an employer who requires the employees to work in an office must comply with health and safety regulations.

The office must be reasonably safe for the employees use and an accident book must be present within the office so that accidents can be recorded. The accident book entries and occurrence reports are to be reviewed by management on a regular basis and they should be mindful of safety improvements that can be made.

The employer should give training to members of staff in office safety and it is their requirement to take all possible steps to avoid exposing its workforce to a risk of injury.

Am I entitled to make an office accident claim?

In our experience most of the accidents in offices were avoidable, and therefore employers have neglected their duty to provide a safe workplace.

Office workers can often be at risk from tripping over obstacles such as computer or electric cables lying across the floor, which should have been moved out of the way.

There may be other hazards present in an office environment such as files left on the floor or worn edges on steps leading in and out of the office, and an employer can also be negligent if it fails to give proper consideration to an employee’s desk or work station.

Shop & Supermarket Accident Claims

Shop workers can often be at risk of tripping over items in their workplace such as boxes which are left in the aisles of a shop, meaning the employer/shop keeper has failed to provide a clear passageway. Furthermore, supermarkets can also run the risk of asking employees to repeatedly bend or lift when stocking shelves or unloading a delivery.

Therefore, where possible an employer/shop owner should provide mechanical equipment to assist with the manoeuvring and lifting of stock within the shop premises.

The Manual Handling Regulations will apply to the shop premises and this should be heeded with the employer expected to take every possible step to avoid the risk of injury to a shop worker.
