An employer is expected to minimise the risk of an accident occurring within factory premises and
must always look to improve safety.

The employer will nominate a representative who is expected to meet with members of staff on a regular basis  to review safety issues. The risk of a particular operation within the factory causing injury must be assessed on an ongoing basis. The employer is required to keep an accident book on the premises so that if a factory accident does occur then it can be accurately recorded.

The accident book entries will show whether or not particular types of accidents occur on a frequent basis. If this is the case then the employer will be expected to address this and make safety improvements. It is important that an employer trains its existing and any new employees in how to avoid injury. Records of training given must be kept and monitored by the employer.

Am I entitled to factory accident compensation?

If a factory machine has working parts then these parts must be guarded when the machine is in operation. Protective clothing should be supplied to workers handling hot or dangerous materials within a factory. The factory floor area should be unobstructed and kept free of any spillages that could cause a worker to lose their footing and slip over.
