Hospitals, GP surgeries and other centres for medical treatment should be clean, well maintained and, as far as possible, safe for use by members of the public and staff who work on those premises.

Hospitals and treatment centres are required to maintain up to date and accurate records of cleaning and sterilisation procedures and they must also conduct risk assessments with the aim of keeping risks of exposure to the condition such as MRSA to a minimum.

Hospitals are also under a duty to ensure that visitors and staff are not physically assaulted by violent or drunk patients, and adequate security should be provided by the hospital to ensure that this is the case.
